QuantStack is one of the leading contributors to scientific open source software in Europe. We work on scientific visualization software in 2-D and 3-D, interactive computing with Python and C++, and tools for robotics development.

We are looking for a motivated robotics software development intern or working student to join us to work at the interface between robotics, perception, machine learning, visualization and data science. We are currently focusing our robotics efforts to help launch robots in the cloud where we work closely with the ETH spinoff Rapyuta Robotics.

The internship may begin at any time during the year. Interns are expected to join the team for a minimum of six months. The preferred location is Berlin (Paris is an option), working hours between 20 hours (working student) or 40 hours (full time internship).

Responsibilities.

  • Work on challenging problems at the interface of robotics and data science
  • Be self-motivated and contribute to our open source stacks
  • Integrate yourself into our open source community by helping out others
  • Challenge the status quo and come up with new solutions
Qualifications.
  • Basic programming knowledge: C++, ROS, JavaScript or Python are a plus
  • Background in mechanical engineering, robotics, electrical engineering, computer science, or related field with a strong academic record
  • Good English skills
  • Structured, detail-oriented, and proactive work style
  • Excellent team and communication skills

In this role, you will become a member of a vibrant open-source community, contribute to a high-impact project used by millions in the world, and grow to become a key maintainer of the ecosystem.

About QuantStack

QuantStack is an open-source development studio specializing in scientific computing. The team comprises core developers of major open-source projects, such as Jupyter, Conda-forge, Voilà, Xtensor, and many others. We strive to build high-impact software and grow communities.

Your role at QuantStack

You will support the community of users of the Conda and Mamba ecosystems, and help shape the future of software adopted by millions of engineers and scientists in the world. In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the development of the Quetz package server, and the JupyterHub project.
  • Improve the Quetz open-source package server to enable large-scale public-facing deployments of the service.
  • Contribute to the development of JupyterHub to enable large-scale high-availability deployments of Jupyter-based services.
  • Contribute to the development of build pipelines for creating conda packages.

While prior experience with conda or Jupyter is not required, a track record of contributing to open-source software is a huge plus.

Your role at QuantStack

You will support the community of users of the Jupyter and larger PyData ecosystem, and help shape the future of software adopted by millions of engineers and scientists in the world. Beyond your primary focus on the JupyterLab frontend, you will contribute to other components of the PyData ecosystem.

We are looking for an experienced front-end web developer to contribute to the development of the JupyterLab front-end and the ecosystem of JupyterLab front-end extensions, as well as Jupyter Widgets. Experience with any of the following are strong assets to an application:

  • JavaScript, TypeScript or Python programming languages.
  • WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).
  • In-browser data visualization libraries and tools.

Prior experience with Jupyter development specifically is not required. A track record of contributing to open-source software is a huge plus.

While prior experience with conda is not required, a track record of contributing to open-source software is a huge plus. For this role, we are seeking strong C++ and Python programmers, ideally experienced with build toolchains and best practices for package management on the main platforms.
